New Smart Bulbs, Surface Switch, and Smart Plug Gateway Empower Students and Renters to Bring Smart Lighting Home
LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. – Intermatic LLC today announced the launch of two new ABRA product bundles aimed at helping college students, renters, and new homeowners bring the excitement of smart lighting to their living spaces. The starter bundles include four ABRA smart bulbs (A19 or BR30), the patented ABRA Surface Switch, and an ABRA Smart Plug Gateway for easy flexibility and customization.
“Roughly 25 million people will move into a new home this year, and the bulk of those moves will occur between May and August,” says Leigh Herman, IoT Product Manager at Intermatic. “Our new ABRA starter bundles make it easy to turn any new space into a customized smart lighting environment.”
Using the Intermatic ABRA app, renters and DIY enthusiasts can create daily lighting/load schedules, adjust bulb hue and color temperature, and create lighting scenes. The system also integrates with popular voice assistant platforms, including Alexa, Google Home, and Siri, which help users create fun and time-saving smart home routines within their living space.

The ABRA system uses a combination of 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth® LE technology to onboard devices and maintain “always on” functionality while optimizing for battery life. This dual-technology wireless approach is managed by the built-in Bluetooth® bridge in the ABRA Wi-Fi Smart Plug Gateway, enabling users to connect up to 50 battery-powered ABRA Bluetooth devices, like the Surface Switch, to their space.
